Campaign 1776: The American Revolution
Turn-based strategy game set during the War of Independence. It is related to the classic Battleground games and the engine is based on that used in those games. The main single-player mode is the campaign mode and there are four campaigns to work though. You can also choose a stand-alone scenario. There is a strong two-player mode (via hotseating, serial/modem connection or PBEM). The mixes historically-based battles with some that are made up. The game is played on a zoomable hex-based map and turns are divided up into several phases. A 3D viewing mode is available, although it is of limited use in the heat of battle. Unit types include commanders, artillery, infantry and cavalry regiments (of up to a hundred men). The game's interface is effective and the graphics are functional.

Turn-based strategy game that recreates battles of the American Civil War. In all there are 19 campaigns to choose from. There are 46 famous encounters recreated together with some 150 others. It is also possible to design your own scenarios. You can play either side in the war and play against the computer or another players (by hotseating or modem connection). The game's graphics and controls are effective.

This is the first game in a popular series of WW2 strategy/ war games. This installment covers the Normandy landings at the Omaha beachhead. It consists of a series of missions that involve controlling groups of units through historically-based scenarios with multiple objectives. A variety of authentic unit types feature. The games are played from an overhead perspective and an effective system of map views and menu options help you keep track of the action. Alongside the single-player game, is a multi-player mode. The game now looks a bit dated and significant improvements to the gameplay, particularly in terms of AI, are incorporated into the later games in the series.

Real-time strategy/war game that recreates Operation Market Garden during the Second World War. You can choose to play either side in the conflict. The game has a lot of depth. The controls and menus system are effective. There is a selection of game options including stand-alone scenarios and the full campaign. Each scenario comes with several objectives. The game can be multi-played via LAN or Net connection.

Latest in this series of successful real-time strategy/war games. It reproduced the battlefields and units of this famous WW2 battle. The game is played from an overhead perspective and both the Ardennes landscape and historically-accurate units are well-reproduced.
