Rage of Mages

Real-time strategy game with major RPG component. The game is set in a fantasy universe where the land is beset by civil war. Your character is sent by his emperor to the land of Uimoir in search of a magical weapon that will the end the war. Other members will join your party and you'll be given many mini-quests as the game progresses. You have a limited control over the creation of your character and must choose between warrior or mage classes. The game is played on an overhead-viewed landscape. The gameplay primarily consists of exploration, interaction with NPCs and combat. Good cutscenes help to develop the strong plot. Combat is real-time and you can control each of the members of your party, although they do demonstrate limited AI. The control system is effective. A reasonable selection of equipment and spell-types are incorporated into the game. Alongside the single-player game, is a multi-player mode for up to 16 players for on-line games. The graphics are adequate.

Business sim and strategy game. You choose from the selection of pre-set scenarios or an open-ended game. There is also a multi-player mode. The game features six distinctive locations in the US, South America, Europe and Africa. You decide how your railroad expands, creating new routes, and deciding what trains you have for carrying various types of cargo. The aim is to maximize your profits by creating trains and routes that will carry the most cargo. Competition comes in the form of rival companies. In all, over 30 types of trains are incorporated. The game is played through an easy-to-use interface and a landscape screen. You company's progress can be tracked by the performance of their shares on the stock market. As might be expected, the game now looks a bit dated.

Lot of railway components and trains will be available. Over a thousand locomotive types will feature. As you progress new technologies and business opportunities will become available, for instance you'll be able to take over other railway companies. The game will consist of a series of challenging scenarios. Success will be based not just on making money but also on the prestige of your company. There will also be a strong multi-player mode (over LAN or online). The game promises to deliver good graphics and gameplay with lots of depth.

The new missions have real-life, urban settings, making for even more challenging gameplay as you must avoid involving the many civilians who mill about. Among the new environments is a London tube station. The difficulty level of the game is generally pretty high. This mission pack offers the same excellent graphics, AI and gameplay of Rogue Spear.

Historically-based wargame set during WW2, this game covers the action on the Eastern Front in Summer 1944. You play either the Russians or the Germans. The game offers a selection of scenarios allowing you to play out alternative strategies. The game is played on hex-based maps and numerous types of authentic units are incorporated. The game employs effective interface and control systems. It boasts good AI and attempts to reproduce many of the factors which effect a force's performance.

Strategy game with RPG elements due for release at the end of 2000. Set in a fictional Eastern European republic called Novistrana, you'll be able to choose from fifteen factions with the aim of taking control of the country. There will be five main ways to the top; political, business, military, religious or criminal. The gameplay will consist of recruiting and the deploying various types of people such as assassins, spies, union leaders and authors who'll support your cause. You can use these supporters in many subtle ways to manipulate events to garner extra support from the masses. A notable feature of the game will be the large gameworld, numerous villages and cities will feature and you'll be able to visit any of them and watch over a million inhabitants going about their lives. You'll have a fully zoomable view. The game promises advanced graphics and AI.

Combat/strategy game featuring a selection of military vehicles. You control these vehicles, including a tank, PT boat and helicopter, one at a time on capture-the-flag missions whilst blasting a variety of enemy units and protecting your own bases. Major improvements have been made over the original, it boasts better graphics, improved gameplay and a new selection of multi-player options. New vehicles and weapons have been added. The single-player game consists of 30 well-designed battle scenarios and there are three multi-player game types, allowing for both competitive and cooperative action. Two people can play on the same PC or up to 16 people via modem connection, LAN or Net. The game incorporates a good diversity of terrain from deserts to the arctic. The control system is simple and effective.

Part of the successful Campaign series of war games set during the Second World War (this is the follow-up to East Front and West Front). The a multi-player option provides for games via LAN to Net. The game is played on a good map of the battlefield. Viewed from an overhead perspective, units and other features are rendered in 3D. There are many video clips included and these add a degree of realism to the game. The game's interface and menus system are effective.

Turn-based strategy/war game set during the American Civil War. You'll take the role of General Lee, one of the most successful commanders in the Confederacy, in recreations of his famous encounters. Many video clips are included adding atmosphere to the game. There is a choice of full campaign or stand-alone missions. A tutorial is incorporated to help you get the hang of the game. Three difficulty settings add replayability value to the game. A good feature is the historical database that provides detailed background information on many aspects of the Civil War. The game is played on map screens and you must organise and keep your troops supplied. The game's graphics and interface are affective. It offers a lot of depth and takes into account many factors in the unfolding battles, including troop morale.

Strategy will be an important element of the gameplay. The game's graphics and design promise to be good.

Space based real-time strategy game. The game's premise is that earth scout ships have discovered a weapon on Mars that threatens the Earth and two corporations are competing for the contract to destroy the weapon. In order to decide the winner a series of trials have been organized in which each company's robotic fighters will be tested before the victor takes on the main mission. You can take control of either side's robots through a single-player campaign consisting of 16 challenging missions. There is also a multi-player mode for up to four players (via LAN or Net). The gameplay consists of deciding which configuration of robots to produce, defining chassis-type and weapon. Success in-mission earns cash for more or better robots. A good selection of high-powered weapons, including missiles, shockwaves and lasers, are incorporated. You then take your units into maps on a variety of maps covering a range of terrain and including a variety of obstacles that shape battle strategy. The game employs good 3D graphics and the control system is effective. A range of sound effects and beat-driven tunes accompany play.
