Soccer game with management component. It features all the teams in the English Premier League (as of 99 season), recreating the players and grounds in accurate detail. It is possible to customize the teams, and this function can be used to update teams to keep up with the real League. The management element involves the accumulation of 'stars'. Each player is attributed stars (gold, silver or bronze) to represent his particular spread of skills. You gain stars by performing well during matches and these can be distributed among your players.

FIFA 2000

Football game featuring authentic teams and players, available for PC and PlayStation. This version boasts improvements in many areas over the 99 game, most notably the graphics. Players are more fully rendered and the player animation is derived from motion-capturing. A greater variety of moves is now available and the control system works well. It is now possible to construct more complex attacks on goal. The game's AI is also high-quality. The game incorporates a comprehensive set of international and leagues sides. It is also possible to play against great teams of the past. In all, a massive 800 teams are included. You also choose from a selection of game modes; training, exhibition, league (season) or tournament (including World cup). As well as controlling the on-pitch action there is a management component to the game, you'll decide starting line-up and on-pitch strategy and formation. Alongside the single-player game, there is a strong multi-player mode. Play is accompanied by a good TV-style commentary by John Motson and Chris Waddle.

This latest installment in the best-selling series of soccer games is currently in development for multiple platforms. It promises to recreate an even greater selection of teams, whilst offering improved gameplay and graphics. In all some 75 teams will be incorporated. Notably, it will be possible to reproduce the qualifying stages of the FIFA World Cup 2002. Other game options will include training, friendly, league and custom competition. There will be a strong two-payer mode on all platforms. The game will feature a new passing system that should give players greater freedom for more realistic gameplay. The tackling model will also be overhauled and this will effect referee decisions.

Part of the successful FIFA series of games from EA Sports. This game concentrates on the 1998 World Cup competition. You can choose to take control of any of the international sides involved in the competition or a league side for a season. In all, 172 international teams and over 350 league teams are featured, with a total of over 6,000 players. The game also incorporates a player editor so you can create your own soccer stars. The game offers a good selection of game options; Training, World Cup (including the option to play all the qualifiers), Friendly, League Season and Penalty Shootout. Between matches you can trade players and change the on-pitch strategy and formation. Alongside the single-player game, there is a strong multi-player mode (on PC, for up to 8 players via modem/serial connection, same PC or LAN, or 2/4 with PlayStation/N64). The game boasts many improvements over the 1997 game. There are more control options, making for more realistic action and the game boasts better graphics, character animation and AI. Games are accompanied by a varied commentary provided by John Motson and Andy Gray.

There are several game options including practice, quick start and full championship. You are placed in control of the team of your choice. You can trade players as well as defining areas of match strategy. The game allows you to control the action at three levels, allowing you to decide the depth of control you want. The in-match the control system is effective. The game employs high-quality 3D graphics and character animation is impressive. A good feature of the game is that you can choose your team's strip from a wide selection.

Soccer game and part of the successful series of sports games by EA. The game offers a high degree of customizability. You can choose between arcade, sim or action modes, league, friendly or tournament matches and set match length. A selection of controller configurations reflects a range of difficulty levels. There is also a choice of camera set-ups. You can opt to take control of an international teams or a league side from England, Italy, Germany, France and USA. In all, over 150 teams are incorporated. Between matches you select your starting line-up, set strategy and on-pitch formations. The game's graphics are reasonable. Alongside the single-player game, is a multi-player mode for up to four people.

This game is aimed primarily at kids and based on the hit cartoon series. It combines racing with bowling elements. The premise is that Fred is prevented from going bowling by his boss and so Fred and his friends turn the quarry into a race track. They then race around in hollowed out boulders. Other tracks are set elsewhere, for instance one is located on the freeway. The tracks feature many twists and turns and there are numerous power-ups and bonuses to be earned, including bowling pins that must be knocked over. The game's graphics and controls are effective.
