Tachyon: The Fringe
Space combat sim. The game offers advanced graphics, a well-designed game universe and good gameplay. You play a mercenary named Jake Logan. The game's premise is that a conflict is raging between a group called the Bora and a mega corporation, the Galactic Spanning Corporation. The Bora have colonized a resource rich planet and GalSpan are trying to take it over. Missions will give you the opportunity to help both sides and your choices will effect the outcome of the conflict. The single-player game consists of a campaign of about thirty missions. Objectives are quite varied and take place in different part of the galaxy. You define your ship's set-up choose your wingmen before each mission. An extensive range of high-powered weapons are included in the game. You can upgrade your ship and weapons as you progress. Alongside the single-player game is a strong multi-player mode that enables up to 127 people to participate in battles on-line (up to 16 players via LAN). The game's graphics and visual effects are impressive. A good range of sound effects and rousing tunes accompany play.
