Earth 2150: Escape from the Blue Planet
Acclaimed real-time strategy game and follow-up to Earth 2140. The game boasts many improvements over its predecessor. It combines good graphics and design with playability and depth. The single-player game consists of a campaigns of a series of missions for each of the three sides. You must reach targets in various areas but often over multiple missions. There is also a multi-player option that allows up to eight people to participate in games via modem, LAN or Net.

Emperor: Battle for Dune
3D RTS that is loosely based on Frank Herbert's novels. The gameworld is ruled by three main family houses and five sub-houses. Each has their own distinctive characteristics and unit types. The game is played on a strategy map screen and 3D battlefields. The single-player campaign consists of a series of missions connected by a strong story that is not closely related to that of the books. FMV sequences intersperse the action. There is also be a strong multi-player mode for games over LAN or on-line. The game's graphics and design could be better.

Empire Earth
3D real-time strategy game currently in development. It promises to combine advanced graphics, loads of unit types and a great deal of depth. Unlike similar games, this one will cover the entire period of human history and on into the near future. The vast time span will be divided into twelve periods. Some three hundred unit types and twenty-five basic building types will feature. There will be a selection of single-player campaigns, some historically based and other fictitious, and a strong multi-player mode. Notably, players will not have to complete the campaigns in order.

Empire of the Ants
RTS featuring armies of ants. The game offers a single-player campaign, custom missions and a multi-player mode. It is set in two locations, within the ant hill and above ground. Ants come in several varieties with specialized skills and physical characteristics. You are placed in control of an ant colony managing resources, controlling conditions in the ant hill and the birth rates of the various types of ant, in order to make the colony able to withstand predators and other threats (such as harsh weather). The game's controls are effective and the command menu system is straightforward. The game's graphics could be better.

Action-oriented RTS. Set in the far future on a colony called Redavi, the premise is that aliens have overrun the planet. You must guide the human survivors to victory over the invaders. The game consists of a series of missions, each with their own objectives. Your force is composed of many different personnel types including soldiers, robots, doctors and mechanics. Each is an individual with their own skills and personality. There are also various buildings that can be reactivated. The game boasts good design and effective graphics and controls.

The map is divided into sectors and you must takeover as many as possible. The game's interface is effective.

European Wars: Cossacks
Historically-based RTS. It will cover the European conflicts between the 16th and 18th centuries. Over eighty historical battles will be recreated. Sixteen national groups will feature, each with distinctive characteristics and units. Each country will have their own economic and technological development structure. Resource management and trade will revolve around six resources; gold, coal, iron, wood food and wine. Epic, featuring up to eight thousand units battles are promised. Numerous unit upgrades and tactical options will be available. The game will be played on an isometric landscape and promises good 3D units and graphical effects.

Evolution: The Game of Intelligent Life
Strategy game which places you in charge of the evolution of a species. Starting with the Carboniferous Era you encourage the growth of a colony of primitive organisms. When the colony reaches a certain strength it splits into two. These different offshoots will compete with others that are evolving and its a struggle for resources to stay alive. The aim is to develop a sentient being. There are several game options including a good multi-player mode that adds an important dimension to the gameplay. The control system and graphics are adequate.

Extreme Tactics
RTS. Set in the future the game features an extensive selection of high-tech units. The premise is that there are two groups, the Hammerhawks and the Bloodfox, competing over a valuable resource called 'coolar'. Apart from coolar you'll need to gather another element, 'calibrium', in order to build units. Significantly, it is impossible to assemble units to your own design and even define their AI. The game is played on an isometric landscape. The game's interface and graphics could be better.
