Combat flight sim featuring the aircraft of the IAF. There are seven types of flyable aircraft including the F-16 Falcon, Mirage III and Lavi ATF. In the multi-player mode you'll also be able to take control of Russian aircraft. The game offers a choice of six campaigns, a selection of single missions and a random mission generator. Multi-player games are possible over LAN, modem/serial connection or on-line. The game has a lot of depth and a realistic flight model and control system. A good training mode is incorporated to help you get the hang of the complex controls. Alongside the large amount of technical info, are extensive historical and tactical databases including video clips. The game's graphics are pretty good, although they have been surpassed by more recent titles.

Action-oriented combat flight sim. It is set in an alternate history where China, North Korea and Russia are powerful allies and enemies of the US. The game revolves around their attack on the US, which is concentrated on San Francisco. You can choose from three flyable aircraft; the F/A-8 Hornet, the F-14 Tomcat, and the F-22 Raptor. The game offers advanced graphics and fast-paced, dog-fighting action. You can choose from a single-player campaign and stand-alone missions or battle up to 15 other people, via LAN or on-line.

Jetfighter: Full Burn
Part of a series of successful flight combat games, this is the follow-up to Jetfighter III. The game features the F/A-18, F-22 and MiG-42. It offers a new set of missions and improved graphics. As well as the main campaigns, there is a set of good training missions and a multi-player option. The game's flight model offers more arcade-style action rather than being an ultra-accurate simulation. The graphics, interface and control system are generally good, although they are surpassed by some of the more recent games.

JSF - Joint Strike Fighter
Combat flight sim featuring two flyable aircraft, the Boeing X-32 and Lockheed Martin X-35. Both are state-of-the-art stealth aircraft and are yet to come into service. The game offers a choose of four campaigns and quick-start dogfight mode. The action takes place in the skis over Afghanistan, Colombia, Korea and Scandinavia. In the multi-player mode up to eight players will be able to compete via modem/serial connection, LAN or on-line. The game's realistically complex control system will take time to get to grips with. The game's graphics are reasonable, although they are surpassed by more recent games. Play is accompanied by a range of sound effects and radio chatter.

Requires MS Flight Simulator 98. This civil flight sim featuring the latest Jumbo, the modern 747-400. You can choose between free-flight and pre-set scenarios. Varied weather conditions come into play. The plane's handling accurately reflects that of this giant plane. The game boasts good 3D graphics and every aspect of the craft is rendered in great detail.
