Silhouette Mirage

This game, originally released for the Saturn, is now available for the PlayStation. It is a 2D, arcade-style, shooting/fighting game that employs a somewhat bizarre cartoon-style design. You play a female warrior called Shyna and must guide her through a series of challenging levels featuring a range of outlandish opponents. She has a good range of moves at her disposal including a number of fighting attacks. When she is attacks an enemy coins are released that can be used to buy weapons. A novel twist to the gameplay is that enemies fall into one of two categories, silhouette of mirage, hence the game's name. Each types is only vulnerable from one side adding a strategic element to the game. The game's graphics and control system are effective.

Skeleton Warriors

Soul Blade

Fighting game featuring varied characters and weapons. There are ten characters to choose from and each has their own type of weapon and special moves. Weapons include a variety of swords, knives, an ax and nunckucks. A diverse selection of arenas are incorporated, each one has a boundary and once a player is pushed out he forfeits the match. A good feature of the game is the extensive range game options available. Arcade mode offers battles for one or two players against the computer. There are also single-player survival and time attack modes. More innovative options are Team Battle mode, where you select a group of characters and then each has one full life as you attempt to complete all the levels and Edge Master, which is similar but when you defeat a character you gain their weapons. Finally, there is a straight-forward versus mode. The game's graphics are good although the game is now quite old. There are numerous moves and combos to master and the control system is effective.

Previously released for the arcade, this game is a follow up to the successful Soul Blade. It offers advanced high-speed fighting action and impressive 3D graphics. Improvements have been made over the arcade version, particularly in the character animation.

Action game based on the Spawn comics and featuring an extensive selection of the characters. It first appeared in the arcades. Each character has their own fighting capabilities and weapons, including guns. The game concentrates on deathmatch action. The main single-player game mode will be 'boss attack' mode, in which you face AI enemies and bosses in time-limited levels. There is also be a tournament option. The multi-player mode enables up to four people to compete in individual and team deathmatches. The game will have a number of large arena levels and dedicated multi-player levels. A radar helps you track enemies. Players are able to switch between first-and third-person views. The game's graphics are advanced.

Fighting game based on the hit movie. The game offers arcade-style fighting action, a good selection of game options, characters and settings. There are six playable characters (Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu, Pio Koon and Adi Gallia). Characters have their own strengths and weaknesses in areas such as physical strength and force power (for defense etc.). Other abilities include healing. Lightsabres are the primary weapon.

Street Fighter 3: Double Impact

Part of this successful series of beat 'em ups. It is a conversion of both Street Fighter 3 and Street Fighter 3: 2nd Impact that were arcade-only releases. The premise is that the world's top fighters have been brought together to participate in a competition. The game features a selection of 15 playable characters, including only three familiar faces from the previous games. The game employs a simplified fighting system. A system called Super Arts is incorporated; each character has three special moves available and you select one before a match. You can choose training mode, arcade mode (human versus computer) and two-player versus mode. There is also a baseball-style mini-game. The game employs high-quality 2D graphics with well-animated fighters and lavishly detailed backgrounds.

Street Fighter 3: Third Strike

Part of this successful series of beat 'em ups and follow-up to Street Fighter 3: Double Impact. The premise is that the world's top fighters have been brought together to participate in a competition. The game features new characters, moves and backdrops with a refined interface and many new customization options. The most notable among the characters featured is Chun Li, who was absent in Double Impact. As in that game, the Special Arts system is incorporated. Each character has a three special moves, one of which the player must select one before a match. A significant addition is the 'system-direction' mode that allows you to modify many aspects of the fighting system. You can fight against the computer or a friend in the versus mode. There are also two mini-game; a baseball style game to help improve blocking skills and another where you get to attack a selection of cars! The game employs high-quality 2D graphics with well-animated fighters and lavishly detailed backgrounds.

Arcade-conversion and part of this highly-successful series of beat 'em up games. The premise is that the world's top fighters have been brought together to participate in a competition. This game is known as Street Fighter Zero in Japan. The game offers a choice of practice, arcade and two-player versus modes. There are twelve playable characters, including two from Capcom's other game Final Fight. Each character has their own fighting style and special moves. Among the new moves featured in this installment is the 'Alpha Counter-attack', which enables players to turn attacks back on opponents. New 'super moves' have also been added. These are accessed by landing a series of hits on your opponent. The game features good 2D graphics.

This compilation consists of; Super Street Fighter 2, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo and Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold. The games are all arcade conversions and enable players to fights against CPUs or another player. Each game has its own selection of characters and special moves. They are 2D fighters with reasonable character animation. Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold features a few bonus characters and options including 'Akuma mode', in which you fight a boss named Akuma repeatedly.

This compilation consists of Street Fighter 2: The World Warrior, Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition and Street Fighter 2: Turbo. These games were originally released in the arcades in the early 1990s. They are all 2D fighting games. Each one features a different selection of fighters and variations in the fighting system, with new special moves. Game options include practice, arcade and versus mode (for two players).

Arcade conversion and part of this successful series of beat 'em ups. It features new characters and improved graphics. Game options include practice, arcade, team battle (up to five characters) and two-player versus modes. There are new game options such as Expert mode (each character has their own quests) and Director mode that allows you to edit replays of the action choosing viewpoints, music etc. The gameplay has also been enhanced, there are new attacks such as the powerful Excel and the Super Meteor attacks).

Part of this popular series of beat 'em ups, this installment is the first to be released for PlayStation 2. The game combines improved graphics and character animation with explosive effects. The action is faster than the previous games in the series and new moves are available. Both familiar character and a few ones are incorporated. A notable new addition is the character editor that allows you to create your own characters. There is a selection of game modes including 'Original Mode' which mixes up bout types including team-tag and two-on-one matches. The multi-player mode allows up to four people to play at the same time.

Fighting game featuring Mario and friends. Among the other characters are Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Link and a selection of Pokémon creatures. Fights are conducted on freestanding platforms and victory is achieved by pushing your opponent off the edge, or by building up a higher points tally.
