Vangers: One for the Road
Action/adventure game. The game combines a strong story and gameplay with a great deal of depth. Set in the future, you play a member of a clan called the Vangers and are effectively a mercenary. You control 24 different types of vehicles that can variously travel on land, in the water and in the air and have many other specializations. You earn money for successful performances, enabling you to buy a more powerful vehicle. A similarly extensive range of weaponry is available. You view the action from an overhead perspective and the game employs a combination of 2D and 3D graphics. The game consists of a series of missions set on 10 worlds that cover a wide variety of terrain types. The interface and controls are complex but effective one mastered. Alongside the single-player game is also a multi-player mode for up to eight people via LAN or on-line. There are three options in this mode for combat, trading or racing based games.

Vigilante 8
Action game with a 1970s theme that combines driving with combat. Game options are quest, arcade and two-player (cooperative and competitive) modes. The premise is that oil is running out and there is conflict between two groups; the Oil Monopoly Alliance Regime and some violent rebels called the 'Coyotes'. You'll play a member of a third group, an anti-terrorist organization whose member are called 'Vigilantes'. The game consists of battles in open arenas. Settings include LA, an oil refinery and an air strip. There are eight distinctive characters to choose from. Weapon and other power-ups are scattered around the levels. the game's graphics and controls are effective.

Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense
Action game which combines driving and shooting, set in the 1970s. Available on Dreamcast, PlayStation and N64. The game's premise is that, thanks to time travel, the cars have been boosted with futuristic technology. This makes for some innovative action, for instance cars can be driven on water. There are two gangs fighting for control of the streets, one criminal and one good. You can play on either side.

Viper Racing
Racing game featuring the high-performance Dodge Viper. There are eight varied courses incorporated into the game. A choice of game options are available including time trial, quick races, career and multi-player modes (via modem, LAN and Net). In career mode you work through four classes and success in races earns you to cash to upgrade your Viper. A high degree of customizability is available. There is a good physics model and the controls are effective, although the game is challenging. The graphics are good.

V-Rally
Highly successful rally sim. The game combines good graphics with in-depth gameplay. It features a eleven officially-licensed cars and the handling characteristics of each are reproduced. There are a range of game options including arcade mode, time trial, full championship and two-player versus mode. An important feature of the game is the large number of tracks available, with some 42 authentic courses in all. Good range of terrain and weather conditions are recreated. The game's graphics are good, with both cars and tracks being rendered in good detail. Play is accompanied by realistic engine noise and a rock-style musical soundtrack.
