Ridge Racer 64

First in this successful series of racing games to appear on the N64. It combines elements from the four games that have been released for the PlayStation. There are several game options including single-player quick-start races and four championships, and a multi-player option for up to four players. Racing game and follow-up the successful original Ridge Racer. The game offers slightly improved graphics, some new cars to unlock and three new tracks. There are a selection of game options; practice, time trial, normal race/championship and two-player versus mode. There are four cars to choose from at the start of the game and each has distinctive handling characteristics. The game's three tracks are variants of each other, increasing in difficulty. It is also possible to reverse them, adding to the game's replayability value. A good feature of the game is that there are twelve cars participate in each race and races are realistically challenging. The game's graphics and audio are good.

Road Wars

Action-oriented racing game. It features a selection of vehicles that can be equipped with various weapons. The main game consists of a single-player championship that sees you competing over all the courses. Each race you finish in a qualifying position earns cash that can be spent on car upgrades and repairs. The tracks are reasonably well-designed and, unusually, they incorporate rocket and laser weapons which must be avoided. There is also a multi-player mode for up to eight people over modem/serial connection, LAN or on-line. The game's graphics and controls are reasonable.

High-speed racing game featuring futuristic vehicles equipped with high-tech weapons. It is released in some territories with the title 'Death Track Racing'. The four-wheeled vehicles are able to race upside down and have top speeds of over 400 mph. The game offers an extensive range of game options including arcade, league, time attack, training and demolition modes, as well as a good multi-player option (PlayStation, two players, PC, up to five). The main game is the league mode (there are two rule systems to choose from). You compete in a series of increasingly challenging races earning points and bonuses.

Arcade-style racing game with action component. It is related to EA's other game; NASCAR Rumble. The game offers a selection of vehicles and 15 tracks, most of which have to be unlocked. Game options include single race, championship (five are available), stunt challenge and showdown. Weapons are scattered around the tracks and there is also a range of stunts that can be performed. The weapons include bombs and hurricanes. The tracks are well-designed with many twists, turns and jumps. Settings are varied, they include mountains and a beach. The game employs a simplified physics model and effective controls. Commentary and music accompanies races.
