Heavy Gear
3D action/strategy game featuring 'Heavy Gears' combat robots equipped with high powered weaponry. There are many types o gears and weapons available and you can build your own from component parts. You play a Corporal who control increasing number of Gears. There are three main game options ; training, story and tour of duty (quick start). Story mode consists of a campaign of 32 missions tied together by a story developed through FMV cutscenes. Set in the futuristic 'Dream Pod 9' RPG universe, the plot revolves around a Civil war on the planet of Terra Nova, colonized by humans. You play Ranger Edward Scott, a member of the Northern army. Mission types include convey duty, hostage rescue and intelligence gathering. There is also a multi-player mode for up to eight people via LAN or Net. The game is played on 3D landscapes. You switch between controls of your Gears and view the action from a third- or first-person perspective. There is also an overhead maps to help you plan your strategy. The game has an extensive selection of controls to master. The graphics and AI are effective, although the game is now some years old.

3D action/strategy game featuring 'Heavy Gears' combat robots equipped with high powered weaponry. They come in a wide variety of types; some walk, others roll, fly or hover. It is possible to extensively customize your Gears. All can perform a wide range of moves. The game is set in the futuristic 'Dream Pod 9' RPG universe. There are three main game options; full campaign, instant action and stand-alone battles. There is also a multi-player mode for up to 1-people over LAN and Net. Available game types include capture the flag, , deathmatch, and king of the hill. The campaign's 37 missions are set within a strong narrative. Following a bombing on your character's home planet, he travels from planet to planet on the trail of the bombers. You command a team of Gears and in-game you control them one at a time, in real-time from a first- or third- person view. Mission objectives include infiltration, reconnaissance and following enemy convoys. Stealth and tactical play are important elements of the gameplay. The robots are small enough to be able to employ stealth and an indicator shows how visible you are to your enemies. An overhead map helps you decide your strategy. Control of the Gears is a complex matter but there is a training mode to help you get the feel of it. The landscapes are varied and weather conditions also play a part in the action. The game uses the Dark Side engine. The 3D graphics, AI and effects of good. The sound effects are nothing special.
