Great Battles of Hannibal

Strategy and Wargaming Game from Interactive Magic, by Erudite Software

Turn-based war-game. This is a conversion of a board-based original. It recreates 10 of Hannibal battles, from the massacre of Roman forces at Lake Trasimene to his defeat at Zama. These can be played as a campaign (always playing the Carthaginians) or individually (controlling either side). Significantly, armies are automatically placed at the beginning of each scenario, based the starting position of the historical battles. There is also a two-player mode, for games via modem/serial connection or LAN.

The game is played on hex-based maps, which include varied terrain. The command system revolves around the commanders in your army, each exerts a range of control and if your forces become too spread out this can result in defeat. Initiative also plays an important part. This sequel offers a greater number of control options that its predecessor (Great Battles of Alexander). New group orders feature. The games graphics and interface are reasonable.
