Star Trek Game from Interplay, by 14 Degrees East
RTS set in space and based on the original Star Trek series (it is possible to choose between early, middle or late eras). The game is inspired by a board-based game, Starfleet Battles. There are some 300 ships of 50 types included in the game.
You choose to play one of six races; the Federation, Klingons, Romulans, Gorn, Hydrans or Lyrans, each of which has its own technology and single-player campaign. In order to complete the overall story, premised on the aftermath of a visit by the energy-entities, the Organians, you must finish all the campaigns. Missions are partially randomly generated, using the Dynaverse system, so no two will ever be exactly alike. You can also opt for a stand-alone skirmish. In multi-player mode, up to six players can play on-line or over LAN.
The game's graphics, AI and interface are good, although patches were needed to get the initial release running properly.
