American football game. Authentic players of the 1997 season feature, whilst team names are close to their real-life counterparts. A selection of classic teams is included, taking the total to over a hundred teams. Game options are single matches, exhibition, season, tournament, fantasy draft. There is a multi-player mode for up to four players. Exhibition matches allow you to watch computer teams in order to improve your skills. Season, tournament and fantasy draft allow you to develop your team over a series of matches. You select a team and then call all the plays during matches. The game offers a high degree of customizability, adding further replayability value. The control system is fairly complex. The game's AI and graphics are effective. Play is accompanied by a TV-style commentary by John Madden himself and Pat Summerall.
