First in this successful series of racing games to appear on the N64. It combines elements from the first two games that have been released for the PlayStation. There are several game options, including single-player quick-start races and four championships, and a multi-player option for up to four players. A notable addition is the team mode, two players race as part of a single team.
There are three basic tracks with numerous variations of each. Tracks are well-designed and rendered in detail. Settings and times of day vary. A good selection of cars are included, with 25 different vehicles in all on offer. The game boasts good physics and control, with each vehicle having its own handling characteristics. The graphics and audio are effective.
