3D action/strategy game featuring 'Heavy Gears' - combat robots equipped with high powered weaponry. They come in a wide variety of types; some walk, others roll, fly or hover. It is possible to extensively customize your Gears.
The game is set in the futuristic 'Dream Pod 9' RPG universe. There are three main game options; full campaign, instant action and multi-player battles. Up to ten people are supported over LAN and Net. Available game types include capture the flag, deathmatch, and king of the hill.
The campaign's 37 missions are set within a strong narrative. You command a team of Gears and in-game you issue orders to your squad mates. Mission objectives include infiltration, reconnaissance and following enemy convoys. Stealth and tactical play are important elements of the gameplay. An overhead map helps you decide your strategy. The game uses the Dark Side engine. The 3D graphics, AI and effects of good.
