Part of this popular series of beat 'em ups, this installment is the first to be released on the PlayStation 2. The game combines advanced graphics with gameplay that has a lot of depth. The advanced platform enables much better character animation and detailed 3D arenas that incorporate animated elements.
As the name suggests the game concentrates on tag matches, however you can opt for one-on-one matches. In single-player tag matches you select two characters and can switch between them at any time. Their energy meters recharge when they not being used. If the match times out the combined energy of each team decides the victor. The main championship mode sees you progressing through a series of battles. You unlock new characters when you complete the championship for the first time with each character. Other game options include practice, time attack and survival modes as well as a Tekken bowl mini-game.
