Third installment in this successful series of 3D first-person shoot 'em ups. The game concentrates on deathmatch gaming. You can play against the computer, which displays impressive AI, or against up to 64 human players via LAN, modem or on-line.
The main single-player option is Tournament Mode. You work through the game, unlocking levels. The Free For All option allows you to select up to 12 bots to fight in any arena. In the Capture-the-Flag game, you choose human- or computer-controlled team mates (NPCs obey typed commands). There are five AI difficulty levels. A system of awards assesses the quality of your play.
There are some 20 playable characters, each with their own distinctive characteristics. You can choose from 89 skins. There are nine weapons ranging from the gauntlet to BFG 10K. A zoom-function has been added.
The game offers a large selection of well-designed levels. An important innovation is the presence of trampoline pads in-level. The graphics, particularly the character animation, are advanced.
