3D first-person shoot 'em up that first appeared on the PC. Set in the future, you play a marine who must help rid the Earth of an race of alien invaders, the Strogg.
The game is divided into levels each with mission objectives, such as infiltrating a base and deactivating its shield. As well as shooting, you must explore the levels finding switches to open doors and collecting weapons and health power-ups. The level settings are varied and include industrial zones, a prison and a palace.
There are 11 weapons in all, including a new hyperblaster. You now have the choice of firing with of left or right handed weapons.
The game employs significantly improved graphics over the first Quake game. A good selection of sound effects and rock-music accompany play. There are multi-player options on all platforms.
